ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan again increased petrol prices on October 6, following a rise announced three days earlier. The latest fuel adjustment saw petrol go up by Rs0.88 to Rs393.64 per litre, while high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This move came after the October 3 revision, which had raised both fuels; petrol had reached Rs392.76, and diesel was at Rs399.64. The new rates replaced those figures for the October 6 pricing period.

Pakistan fuel prices diverge as petrol rises, diesel falls
Pakistan fuel prices move in opposite directions after the latest petroleum revision.

The October 3 change lifted petrol by Rs2.10 from Rs390.66 per litre, with high-speed diesel increasing by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division attributed the adjustment to international fuel price movements and other cost factors, including benchmark rates, premiums, and related expenses. Pakistan’s fuel pricing system also incorporates taxes and duties on petroleum products, with the federal government currently collecting Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.

The October 6 revision shifted the price trajectory for diesel while petrol continued its upward trend. Petrol increased by an additional Rs0.88 from the October 3 level, whereas diesel’s price fell by Rs1.88 after its smaller increase three days earlier. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while high-speed diesel is Rs1.58 lower over the same period. As a result, the latest adjustment widened the price gap between the two major transport fuels sold in Pakistan.

Frequent fuel price changes driven by daily updates

Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing system in July, replacing the weekly revisions used earlier this year, enabling faster responses to international market fluctuations. This system allows prices to fluctuate daily, with petrol and diesel sometimes moving in opposite directions during the same review. The October 6 decision exemplified this pattern, as petrol rose while diesel declined. The Petroleum Division continues to announce updated rates for each pricing period.

Despite recent increases, fuel prices remain significantly below their 2026 peaks. Petrol hit Rs458.41 per litre on April 3, while high-speed diesel reached Rs520.35 per litre during the same period. In early March, petrol was near Rs266 per litre, and diesel was close to Rs281. By October 6, petrol was Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel was Rs122.59 lower than its peak, illustrating a substantial decline from earlier levels.

Transport fuels continue to play vital roles

Petrol is extensively used by cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan, while high-speed diesel is mainly consumed by trucks, buses, generators, and other commercial machinery. These two fuels impact different sectors of the transport and energy sectors, and their prices remain crucial to consumers and businesses because fuel costs directly influence daily operational expenses. The federal government maintains taxes and duties on both products as part of the national petroleum pricing framework.

For October 6, petrol is priced at Rs393.64 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs397.76 per litre, replacing the October 3 rates of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 respectively. The latest adjustment adds Rs0.88 to petrol and reduces diesel by Rs1.88, continuing the pattern of frequent daily adjustments. The October 3 increase served as the starting point for this movement, with the current rates confirmed after the October 6 revision.
